The Byzantine Museum of Ioannina, is located in the south-eastern acropolis, Its Kale, of the Castle of Ioannina and has exhibits of finds mainly from the Byzantine and post-Byzantine period, such as sculptures, coins, old relics and icons, dating from the 4th to the 19th century. The museum is housed in a two-story building, on the ground floor of which the permanent exhibition is housed, on the site of the former “royal pavilion” built in 1958 by the Greek army.
An annex of the museum is the Silversmithing Exhibition. In the Fethiye Mosque, which forms the northern part of the prayer hall, the exhibition of supervisory material is hosted regarding the monument itself, the entire Castle of Ioannina, the life and deeds of Ali Pasha, but also the general historical and artistic imprint of the era.

It is still inhabited today, a rare phenomenon worldwide, it has been linked to the history and death of Ali Pasha. A traditional settlement of approximately 350 acres, with picturesque streets that lead to shops, cafes with traditional Ioannito sweets or taverns. Here, you can see many monasteries with the notable one of Agios Nikolaos of Philanthropines where seven full-length philosophers of antiquity are depicted, Plato, Solon, Aristotle, Plutarch, Thucydides, Apollonius and Cheilon.

It contains the Fethiye Mosque, the Tomb of Ali Pasha and the Byzantine Museum, as well as the Silver and Gold Exhibition Hall. The name Fetihe Mosque means Mosque of Conquest and it was built in 1430 on the ruins of a Byzantine church. Initially it was wooden, but then in 1611 it was rebuilt in stone. It was given its final form by Ali Pasha in 1795. Legends, myths and traditions live the visitor, and accompany him as he walks through the old city, through mosques and dungeons.

It is located on the hill of Agia Triada just a few minutes from the center. It is a theater with a capacity of 3,500 people, a copy of the lower part of the theater of ancient Dodoni, built in the 60s and designed by the architect Vassilis Harisis. It hosts various cultural events every year.

The Archaeological Museum of Ioannina, located next to the historic Clock of the square, has exhibits that cover a long period of time. In total, the new permanent exhibition includes approximately 3,000 archaeological findings from the entire wider region of Epirus. It was built in the 60s by the famous Greek architect Aris Konstantinidis and has since received significant donations. From 19th century European travelers to today’s museum visitors, the history of the place continues to travel and enchant those who choose to explore it.
